Joan Tushabire is the proud owner of Tarl Eco Micro Coffee Farm 2 (TEMICOF2). Measuring 4 acres, the farm is located at Nyamatongo village, Kataraka Parish, Nyakyera Sub-county, in Ntungamo distrct of Uganda. This 58-year-old single mother of 3 girls and 3 boys is a retired primary school teacher and a leader in her community. As a community leader, Joan is the secretary of Nyekundire Cooperative Society Ltd, Treasurer of Kataraka Secondary School and a senior consultant for the Rwenkuba C.O.U Mothers’ Union. Joan is passionate about coffee farming. She is pioneering the TEMICOF model in her village as a way of motivating other women and families to consider bringing their land to productive use. Through this partnership, Tarl Eco Farms established and manages Joan’s family coffee plantation. In addition, Tarl Eco Farms established a 200,000 litres water reservoir to ensure a reliable supply of water for irrigation – the kind of investment that is out of range for many rural households.
